If you are using straight tap water, you will need to put some neutralizer in it and let it set for a minute. Test it again before putting it into the tank. Use the siphon to put the water back into the tank. It won’t affect the fish or make them sick, so it’s better than pouring it in.
Once you have your tank set up, it’s time to start feeding your fish. You will want to feed them at least once a day, but you can feed more or less depending on how much you like the taste of the food and how many fish you plan on keeping. I feed mine once every other day.
If you don’t have a fish feeder, I would recommend getting one. It will save you a lot of time and money and it will make your life much easier when it comes to keeping your aquarium healthy.
Can you use a straw as a siphon?

Why is my siphon not working?
If you put one side of the tube in a higher container, you can suck the water out and put the other side in the lower container. You will end up with a mouth full of water if you don’t suck it.
You can fill the container with water and let it sit for a day or two, then drain it and refill it with fresh water to get the same effect. Or, if you have a garden hose that can be used for this purpose, use it.
Just make sure the hose is long enough to reach all the way down to the bottom of your container and that it’s not too long that you get water in your eyes or nose.
