How do you adjust GH and KH in an aquarium?

In order to raise your Ph, GH and KH and harden your water, I recommend using crushed coral either in your substrate or in a filter media bag in your canister or hang on back filter. For every 10 gallons of water you plan to use, I recommend starting with one pound of crushed coral. If you are not using a substrate, you will need to add a small amount of calcium carbonate to the water before adding the coral.

You can do this by adding a few drops of baking soda to a cup of warm water and adding it to your aquarium. If you do not have a pH meter, it is recommended that you use a hydrometer to measure the pH of the aquarium water. This will give you an idea of how much calcium you need in order for your coral to grow.

Once you have added the calcium, add it slowly over the course of a couple of days until you reach the desired level.
