The documentary, called ‘Dolphin Trance’, follows a group of dolphins as they snacked on fish in the waters off the coast of South Africa. The dolphins, who are part of an international research project, were filmed in what is known as a ‘tetrapod trance’ state, in which they appear to be in complete control of their movements and movements of the fish they are eating.
It is not known whether the dolphins were aware of what they were doing at the time, or whether it was a conscious decision on their part. However, it is clear from the footage that they did not seem to have any intention of stopping when they had finished their meal, and were clearly enjoying themselves.
