The findings suggest that bird feces may be capable of carrying fish eggs far from their original locations. A graduate student at Unisinos University in Brazil and his colleagues found last year that small flowering water plants in bird feces were able to carry eggs from one location to another. In the new study, Silva and his colleagues examined the fecal pellets of four different species of birds.

They found that some of the birds carried eggs in their feces, while others did not. The researchers then compared the feces of these birds with those of a control group that had not been exposed to bird poop. In both groups, eggs were found in feces from birds that were not carrying them, suggesting that birds were carrying the eggs for other reasons, such as to incubate them or to store them for later use.

Some of the most common fish eaten by birds are salmon, trout, cod, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, flounder, catfish, shrimp, crab, mussels, clams, oysters, crabs, scallops, squid, octopus, sea urchins, snails, worms, mollusks, crustaceans, crayfish and other invertebrates. How did fish get into my pond?

A pond that forms near other ponds may get new fish from birds dropping their catch. The fur and feet of local animals may be washed off as they move from one pond to the next if the fish roe remains damp. Ponds may also be affected by changes in water chemistry.

For example, a pond may become more acidic as a result of a change in the water’s pH, or it may be more alkaline due to an increase in dissolved oxygen. These changes can affect the behavior of fish and other aquatic organisms, as well as the ability of aquatic plants and animals to grow.

You can also raise fish in ponds that are a half-acre or larger. Because they are typically bottom feeders, these fish will consume duck manure and help fertilize the pond. If you have a pond that is larger than 1.5 acres, then you may want to consider adding a second pond to the mix. This will allow you to add more fish to your pond, as well as provide you with additional fish food.
