It’s heartbreaking, tragic and a reminder of why Marlin is so protective over his only son. But it’s not the first time we’ve seen this scene play out. In fact, the scene has been a staple of the series since the very first episode.
And it has a lot to do with the fact that the film is based on a novel by Japanese author Osamu Tezuka, who also wrote the screenplay for the original film.
The novel is called “Nemo and the Seven Dwarfs,” and it tells the story of a young boy named Nausicaa who lives with her family in a small village in what is now modern-day Japan.
When her father dies, her mother takes her and her siblings to live with their uncle, a fisherman, in an island off the coast of what was once the Japanese island of Kyushu.
