Every fish keeper knows the pain. A fish passes on to the great lake in the sky, and you have to dispose of the body. Put the fish into the toilet, give it a final salute, and flush it to the ground. Another way would be to bury it, but that’s a bit more complicated.

Do you flush or bury dead fish?
The best way to dispose of dead fish is bury it. The vegetation surrounding the fish’s burial place provides sustenance to the fish. You can either throw the fish into the sea or cremate it.
If you do not have the time or the inclination to do this, then you can use the same method as described in the previous section. However, it is important to note that this method is not as effective as the one described above.
How long does it take for a dead fish to sink?
A gas is formed after a few days when the internal organs of the dead fish are decomposing. The gas causes the fish to float again. The fish will sink again and again until it eventually dies.
How long does it take for a dead fish to decompose?
Depending on how long your tank has been established, the whole dead body can be gone for 7 to 10 days. You shouldn’t get an ammonia spike from that size of dead fish over the course of 6 months.
If you have a tank with a lot of live fish, you may need to add more ammonia to the tank to get the ammonia level down to a safe level. You can do this by adding a few drops of ammonia per gallon of water.
This is a good idea if you want to keep your fish healthy and happy.
Is flushing goldfish bad?
Flushing is just as bad, even if you are certain your fish is dead. Even if the fish are dead, they could have diseases or parasites that could be introduced if the water treatment system is not up to date.
The only thing that can be done is to remove them from the tank and dispose of them in a proper manner. If you do not know what to do with them, you can simply throw them into the garbage.
Do fish know when another fish is dying?
The majority of animals, including fish but not dolphins, do not have a sense of identity or self-recognition. They probably don’t experience an abstract awareness of their own existence. Dolphins, however, are not the only animals to lack this ability. For example, some birds, such as crows and magpies, have been shown to be able to recognize themselves in a mirror [4, 5].
In addition, a number of fish species are known to have the capacity to discriminate between themselves and other fish [6, 7]. These examples suggest that some animals may be capable of perceiving themselves as separate from other animals. However, it is not clear whether these animals are aware that they are separate, or whether they have some sort of awareness that allows them to differentiate themselves from others [8, 9].
Do fish have feelings?
According to all the evidence, fish can feel pain, pleasure, and both fear and pleasure. This is known as the ‘paradox of consciousness’ and it has been observed in many species of fish, including sharks, rays, tuna, mackerel, herring, salmon and trout. It is thought that this is because fish have evolved to be able to detect and respond to their environment in a similar way to humans.
However, unlike humans, they do not have the ability to experience pleasure or pain in response to certain stimuli, such as food or predators. Instead, their brains are wired in such a way as to prevent them from feeling any of these emotions. In other words, in order for a fish to feel any emotion at all, it would have to have a brain that is wired differently to that of a human, which is not the case for most fish.
Why is my fish dead but not floating?
Sometimes fish don’t float when they die. For example, if a fish dies with little to no air in its swim bladder, the act of dying doesn’t magically make this bladder expand to increase buoyancy. The fish will often sink, at which point it will float to the surface.
Do fish play dead?
Some species play dead to fool other fish, often targeting scavengers as a food source. American cichlid is a perfect example. This behavior might hint at a more sinister motive in other species. In a study published in the journal Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology, a team of researchers from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) looked at the behavior of two species of fish in Costa Rica.
They found that when a fish plays dead, it is more likely to be eaten by another fish than by its own species. This suggests that the play-dead behavior may be a way for these fish to avoid predation by larger predators, such as crocodiles and leopards, which are known to prey on fish that are too large for them to eat.
Do dead fish float to surface?
Oxygen is still in the bladder after a fish dies. During the process of decomposition, additional gases are released. Boriek that the fish is a closed container. Gases fill the body cavity when the fish is dead. The belly becomes a guts-filled balloon and the fish floats to the surface of the water.
Boriek and his colleagues have been studying this phenomenon for more than a decade, and they have found that the gases released by decomposing fish are similar to those released when a person dies from a heart attack or a stroke.
In fact, the gas released from the stomach of a dead fish contains the same amount of oxygen as the oxygen in a human’s blood. The gas also contains carbon dioxide, which is a by-product of photosynthesis, a process by which plants and animals use sunlight to produce energy.
Carbon dioxide is also produced by the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and natural gas.
